Project page and development diary for the unofficial English translation of Sono Hanabira Ni Kuchiduke Wo.

Slowly but surely...

Just to put everyone's minds at ease: any rumours of the project's death or cancelation have been greatly exagerated. While I haven't had as much time to spend on it as I'd like, be assured that the project is still slowly but surely being working on toward completion.

This is the least glamourous and yet in ways the most important phase of development. The long, agonizingly slow grind of going over the scripts again and again and again and again. Finding new errors each time through. Trying to find every last error - knowing it's impossible to get them all, but trying nevertheless. Finally passing the scripts on to someone else to double-check. Having the scripts handed back with so many new errors found that it seems like you're starting all over again. And so on and so on...

Still though - slowly but surely - we're getting there.

    Glad to hear things are still working. I bet it's rough, as an author and editor I get a ton of that. That makes the final piece that much more amazing. Keep it up! <3

    Good luck, and persevere! :]

    So...that means it will be another two years until it's done? Apparently you've been working on the draft translation for that long, so seriously, what's the point if you take THAT long to translate ONE GAME?

    Well, that made my day to hear.

    I'm a QC for a scanlation group, I always feel bad handing back a piece that needs a shedload of work doing, even though we want things to be their best.

    @Patrick: 2/10, ur a faget.

    sleeki, still he has a point, he just didn't really word it well ^^;.
    There is no way a translation that's finished takes this long to be "injected" into the game. It takes at most a night of 2 or 3 hours for a visual novel of decent size.
    10 seconds if you made a handy program to inject the data in the right file if you have someone bored with the right skills around.
    But it has now been almost a year since the translation is suposedly finished...
    Injecting the translation in the game is (when done manually) the most painfull process, but it's certainly the first time I see it taking longer than the actual translation.

    I have been visiting from time to time the website to check on any news. But there is almost no doubt left in my mind that we will never see the light of this translation released. Which is too bad really.

    Given that the last two posts were roughly 3 months separate, there's still hope. Regardless, for me, I'll stick around and check everyday.

    Maybe is a stupid question but... Pacula-san, you are translating a single episode of the saga or all? I never understood... (Sorry for the bad english)

  • At August 6, 2009 12:43 PM , Blogger Holly said...

    @Pastare

    CountPacula didn't mention injecting, but proofreading which I know takes a lot of time.

    And of course there is always real life issues that can delay things a lot.

    Try not to be so negative.

    The problem with this situation is that this clearly was nothing more than a side project done simply to pass the time.

    As it's been pointed out, these stages are annoying and tough but they do not take this long. Once the translation was completed and two or so rereading edits were made, normal groups would have released a beta patch, and a final patch about a month later.

    The fact that we have gone months only ever hearing simple "well, it's not dead but... you know..." posts has me firmly believing this project is only ever worked during random nights when there is nothing else to do.

    From what I understand, it isn't even that large or complex of a game. Think of the work that was put into something like the Fate/stay night translation or whoever translated Clannad.

    A lot of people here are still holding out a very pitiful hope that we will get this.... you might as well end your hope right now. It does you no good.

  • At August 8, 2009 7:58 AM , Blogger Holly said...

    @lukafanboy

    Well put it this way, are you doing anything to translate this game? Does it really take much effort to open up this blog from favorites?

    We really have nothing to lose because no one else has expressed interest in translating any of these games.

    But look at it this way, even if this project doesn't get finished, it's generating more interest in the series, so it will be a lot more likely there might be a english translation one day.

    @akino_salla: You can easily find the games from megaupload.com, whether seperately or all together. Although they're free downloads, the problems are: one, they're huge, more than 200MB, and two, most of the downloads I found give you the game, but not the "complete" version of it. All of my series end half way through the story, and I know they're not complete, because I haven't unlocked all the screenshots yet.

  • At September 13, 2009 4:12 AM , Blogger Holly said...

    @akino_saila

    You can buy a digital copy pretty cheaply at eng.dlsite.com

    Or buy retail threw a proxy like I have.

    @saberfangecchi

    If there around 200MB then they are complete, I don't know why you can't access all the content, my retail and digital copies work fine and my digital copies are around 200MB

    It sounds like you might be getting the 'bad' endings. Have you tried picking the first answer to all the questions?

    Pacula, have you considred getting some people to help with the work for the other games in the series(that is, if you even plan to do them)?
    Letting others handle the hacking/editing/other stuff would surely make things easier for you.

  • At September 21, 2009 10:28 AM , Blogger Yukiiko said...

    See, this is what happens when you only have 1 person on a translation team. I don't know why he just doesn't put the script up for download and let someone else finish it off, or at least help him. It's being going on for far too long.

    http://www.countpacula.com/2008/07/not-repeating-mistakes-of-past.html
    Not repeating past mistakes, eh...?

    Seriously, Pac. Let someone else give you a hand.

    Ok, I know I'm opening myself to a hell of a lot of flaming here, and I'm sure that if CountPacula is nearly finished, s/he'll be very insulted by this, but it needs to be said.

    Noticable connection to gamepatch's ever elusive Shuffle patch, or the To heart 2 patch?

    PRE-RELEASE (or real release, since you've been sitting on the supposed complete translation for over a year now) OR BE ACCUSED OF BEING A HOAX

    That is all

    Hmm, I hear that a lot from people who have never touched an ADV/VN before, or ones that have little experience with them.

    Honestly, if you don't like to read, they're not for you. It's not all about pretty pictures and moving images....(that just makes it more engaging). To have an interest, you need to have patience, and like good stories.

    They usually do build up and get better as they go on, that's the appeal of this genre.

    You can call it a game if you want, but that's sort of a misconception.

    Hi, Merry Christmas to you!
    I've been waiting for the translation too, it's true that the last new about this was updated long enough to start thinking, what happening with this project? I don't want to put pressure on anyone, I just only need a newer post telling us that the translation project is still working.
    Thank you CountPacula for all your effort.
    Keep it up! bye

    He made a thread on /u/ today with some new screenshots, saying it would be released on Valentine's Day. Looks like he's still alive.
    Though, Count Pac, if you're reading this, would you consider switching to TLWiki or just working with more people and making the project's progress more open to the public for your next project(s)? It would really help with both the slowness and the uncertainty that was in this project.
